applied to garments such as denim jackets or your favorite jeans.
Accent them with bits of pretty yarns or beads to add more excitement.
No previous needle felting experience is needed. Students should bring
small sharp scissors. Colored pencils may be helpful. Optional
trims such as yarns scraps and beads, plus needle and thread to attach

Felted Home Accessories
Create your own one of a kind home accessories in wool. In this two
day class we will learn a range of techniques for decorating your home in
felt. On day one we will use inlay techniques (using ready made needle
felted "prefelt") to create colorful surface pattern and design.
Create pieces that echo traditional felt inlay designs from Central Asia or
create your own modern design. Students can create a throw pillow,
place mats, table runner or chair pad. On day two we will focus on
techniques for creating light weight felt fabrics incorporating fabrics,
exotic fibers and designer yarns to add lots of surface decoration and
texture. These are great for window valances, pillow and even lamp
shades. Students can choose their projects, but are limited in size
and quantity given the time and space available. Be sure to bring
fabric swatches or pictures of your decor so that you can make accessories
that enliven your interior. Also bring dimensions of the table, window
or chair you have in mind. If you want to make a lamp shade, bring an
old shade frame that works with an existing lamp.

Multi Color Dyeing
Create your personal color palette by dyeing your fiber or yarns using
modern chemical dyes that are safe and offer luscious color choices.
Learn dye safety and practice easy techniques to apply multiple colors to
your fibers. We will also discuss ways to use the dyed fibers to
maximize their impact. Students may bring their own washed fibers and
yarns or choose from the shop's wide selection. Students should wear old
clothing in case of spills and splatters. You may want kitchen gloves
and an apron. Unspun fiber should be washed and dry. Gray
fleeces are lovely when dyed. Yarns should be wound into hanks that
are tied loosely. If you don't know how to do this, we will prepare
them at the class. We will be working in 4 ounce batches so bring
plenty to play with. Plastic bags to take home damp fibers are a must.
