Using yarn, fleece, or roing, learn this easy way to dye your own mutli-color wool. Debbie will show the canning jar method as well as steaming the wool to create fantastic variegated yarns. We'll use the Country Classic dyes with their wonderful range of colors. Bring your own fleece, skeins of wool yarn or roving, or purchase in the shop.

Coiled Fiber Baskets: A Unique Exploration of Creating with Fibers

Coiling is one of the oldest forms of basket making, traditionally created with natural plant materials. Join Martha Koons, an experienced artist and craftsperson, in a workshop that will explore the use of yarn in this age old craft. With just a few materials and your imagination, you will be able to create a beautiful basket in one day. Just bring your imagination and a love of fibers. No experience is necessary. In this day long workshop, you will be instructed in the basics of fiber coiling, creating simple patterns and decorative embellishments. Most of the materials will be include in the workshop: coiling core, artist tape, and tapestry needles. Please bring sharp scissors, and study yarn (medium weight) and beads if you like (yarn and beads can also be purchased at the studio).

Beyond Beginner Weaving
Wednesdays, June 6-27 and July 11-18, 6-9pm

Instructor: Gayle Beaton
We will begin this class with a brief discussion of different types of weave structures and getting a grasp on reading and plotting weaving drafts. Based on student interest, we will choose one specific technique (i.e. double weave, overshot, color & weave etc) to focus on. The six week time frame should enable students to complete two projects - a sampler using yarns provided by The Fiber Studio and also a project of choice, which will involve an additional cost to the student. A 4harness 22" floor loom is available for each student to use during the 6week session. Some warping and weaving experience is necessary.

Needle Felt a Sheep

Learn the art of needle felting in this day long workshop. Needle felting is a fun and easy dry technique to mix colors of wool together. This class will teach the skills needed to complete your project including basic armature and facial shaping. Bring an 8" x 10" x 2" piece of foam to felt on. Fibers and needle will be provided.

Nuno Felting

Art to wear, nuno felted scarf. Participants will learn the fascinating art of felting fine merino wool in to silk or, nuno felting. In this scarf class you will learn to add ruffles, create open work and add fringe to create a soft, draping, one of a kind work of art. Bring several old towels, silk chiffon (8mm or less) patterned or solid, a 1 mil plastic drop cloth, 8X10 is large enough, but any size is ok, merino wool in your choice of colors, and a pair of small sharp fabric scissors. A washboard is helpful if you have one. The instructor will have patterned silk for sale if you can't find any and the Fiber Studio has solid silk chiffon as well as Merino wool.
